Hi! I’m Gingi. I’m a photographer, cosplayer, amateur chef, crazy cat lady, anime otaku, bookworm, generic geek, world traveler, conservative Christian, devoted wife and stay at home new mother of a precious baby girl.
I am just beginning my journey into the domestic realm. I am a crunchy mom in that I feed my daughter exclusively on donor breast milk (I can’t produce my own), I babywear, I use all natural homemade products on my daughter and in my home, I don’t vaccinate, I use holistic remedies and I intend to homeschool. This blog is the record of my discoveries and projects as I strive to balance my apron-clad Martha Stewart-esque family life with my nerdy indulgences.
In the summer of 2008 my life changed when I attended a wedding where I saw a really, really, REALLY cute guy. I was too shy to introduce myself and ended up spending the next few months regretting not being the outgoing flirt that I usually am and missing the chance to learn this guys name. A couple months later, at the midnight release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King in Anaheim, California, I ran into the cute guy again. After learning his name and weeks of stalking him on Facebook (What?! He’s a nerdy Christian conservative geek like me?!), and a generous amount of bullying for a sushi and coffee date, Jonathan Freeman and I fell madly in love and have been inseparable ever since.
Our relationship is unique in that we are equally passionate about our nerdy pursuits, the finer things in life and our Christ-centered domestic domicile. We like to think of ourselves as cultured geeks. It’s not unusual for us to pair a nice wine and cheese and then settle down for an evening of anime and crafting EVA foam armor for cosplay projects.
In October of 2012 we got married in a beautiful small ceremony among the lampposts and Spanish moss in Jackson Square Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. In January of 2013 we discovered that we’re expecting our precious daughter Tessa. And on June 4, 2013 my husband left for Great Lakes, Illinois to attend basic training for the Navy. He graduated August 2nd, and we are now in Pensacola, Florida for his A School… all ready to start our new life as a Navy family!
On September 10, 2013 my precious baby girl was born at 9:34am, weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. She is the most amazing creature to ever grace the planet. I will never know what I did to deserve such an amazing little blessing.
So! My handsome husband and I are embarking on married life, parenthood, a Navy career and a new home all at once, along with our five cats and golden retriever.
I intend to blog about anything and everything that is relevant to chronicle my attempts to be a supermom, stay at home wife, homeschooler and geek girl! If you’d like to get ahold of me – questions, comments, just to chat, whatever – drop me a line at gingifreeman@gmail.com!

Hey Gingi, Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog and the follow, hope you liked what you saw. Looking forward to seeing more from you, 🙂
I am always happy to follow blogs with photography eye candy! Looking forward to keeping in blogosphere touch! ^_^
As am I, 🙂
Beautiful and sweet story 🙂
Thank you!
what a great story!! Love it! Thanks for connecting and I look forward to your posts about mommyhood!! 🙂
Aww, thank you! I look forward to following your posts as well – I have an idea you will be an inspiration when it comes to my post-baby fitness plans, haha! ^_^
Hi Gingi!! Thank you for following my blog and I am now following yours! You’re adorable and I so look forward to your posts!
I noticed we have some commonalities. In addition to having selected the same theme for our blogs, Great Lakes, IL is less than an hour due east of where I live… and I grew up in Pensacola!! I have tons of family and friends there who are full of southern hospitality. I can connect you if you’d like so you don’t have to be in a strange place without knowing anyone 🙂
OMG, yes yes yes yes yes!!! I would love to keep in touch and network with new friends with you! I’ll be in the Great Lakes area the weekend of August 2nd, perhaps we could meet up and get coffee if time permitted? Your post brightened my day! ^_^
I’m soooo glad! And yes! I’ll put Aug 2nd on my calendar!!! That would be awesome!!
People say I’m no good, and crazy as a loon
‘Cause I get stoned in the mornin’, I get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain’t got no money, but I damn sure got it made
‘Cause I ain’t askin’ nobody for nothin’
If I can’t get it on my own
If you don’t like the way I’m livin’
You just leave this long haired country boy alone
Is this MY Sam Anderson?? *lightbulb*
Thanks for the Like on my blog. And if you’re not already busy enough, can I give you a to-do list? 🙂
But of course! haha! 😉
Thank you for liking my Goldilocks blog. It was one of my many fun moments with the kids, which I write on a weekly basis. I checked out your site, because we have a same-sounding name. I love your story! – xoxo, Jengie
Ahhh, I love your name! How do you pronounce it?? I pronounce mine “gin” (like the drink) and “gee” (like, gee I like gin!)
Oo0hhh, I do love your name too! Mine sounds just like yours 😀 It’s actually my nickname. Only Family and old friends use it. The new ones call me Joy. If 2 people simultaneously call me by those 2 names, I’ll turn my head to whoever called me Jengie!
I love your blog, it’s so pretty and inspiring!
Thank you! I just got done trolling your blog, and I think it’s pretty darn pretty and inspiring too! hehe.. looking forward to keeping up with you! ^_^
Hey Girlie!
Thanks for checking out a few of my blogs! You have some fantastic stuff here! I absolutely LOVE your Sherlock Holmes stuff, just wow. 🙂
I look forward to seeing what other lovely things you create! Hopefully we can meet up at a Con or something in the future!
Haha, yeah, I was having a bout of insomnia last night so I went on a WordPress awesome blog hunting spree… LIKE ALL DA COSPLAY THINGS!!! lol! I really like your blog! And I would love love LOVE to meet up at a con, I need more con friends. (That’s part of the fun of con-going, right?!) Keep in touch! You look like awesome sauce. ^_^
ALL DA COSPLAY!!! 😀
Hell yeah, I’ll be sure to bother you when I get out and going again! Keep checking in! I’ve got some fun stuff coming up the next month or so!
Thanks! You guys are glorious!
Awesomesauce! Another nerdy, conservative Christian, military wife like myself! My prayers go to your family as you and your hubby have to be apart right now. By now, I am well seasoned at that and it does not get easier. God bless!
You. Me. Friends now. (I haven’t really progressed past the “Tarzan and Jane” scene when it comes to making new friends, haha.) But in all seriousness, we gotta keep in touch! I can use all the military family I can get right about now! It’s only been 3 1/2 weeks without my husband and I’m going INSANE!!
Hehe! I totally understand. Do you have your email addy listed?
And I am a dork, found it and emailed ya.
I’ve only just really looked at your banner pic. Are you dressed as Yuna??? And if so, is it X or X-2? (Because it looks like X-2.)
LOL, yeah, I’m dressed as Yuna, from Final Fantasy X-2. ^_^
I love that game so much! I’ve recently started playing it again. XD
Hi Gingi. Thank you for following HoB. Much appreciated! I’ll be hanging around here…
Anytime! I’m a blog junkie! 😉
Gynjii, I have nominated you for a Very Inspiring Blogger Award.
Wow, thank you!!!
I will be posting about it soon, do check it out. You are welcome.
Hi Gingi, Thanks for stopping and liking my Black and White offering this week. Best wishes for September 16, as well.
Thank you! ^_^
Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my photography! I post new pictures daily, so please come and visit again soon. I enjoy everyone’s likes, comments, and reblogs, so please let me know you stopped by and stay in touch. I’ll do the same.
Just trolling through my old “About Me” comments, and saw this message.. I do love following your blog! So glad we connected in the blogosphere!
Thank you!!!! Please stay in touch!
Gynjii, any plans to go to Comic-Con in San Diego this year? I have photographed the various cosplayers outside of the convention center the last couple of years and it has been a blast.
Yes! I will be there.. though not IN the convention, haha. I was unable to score tickets in the mad dash to get them this year, but I will be in the area to hit some of the outside events.. perhaps we could touch bases and grab a cup of coffee? Email me at gingifreeman@gmail.com if you’d like to!
Thanks for the offer Gynjii. Unfortunately, I will be out of town that weekend and will not be able to photograph Comic-Con this year.
I am sure you have some spots in mind, but I found that the best place to take photos is on 5th street right below the Gaslamp sign. In the mornings and afternoons you get nice open shade as the buildings casts a shadow on the streets. Also if you shoot North-South you can get some nice out off focus backgrounds.
Thank you for the like of “Were The Pilgrims Christian”…Saailer
Anytime!! ^_^
Thanks for the like. I always like seeing who is reading.
Same!! Keep up the lovely reads! ^_^

Hi Gynjii,
Thanks for viewing our Today’s Enlightenment website (www.rohmnj.wordpress.com website. You might also want to check out our other web-site http://www.rohmbible.wordpress.com. When I read about your marriage and your husband serving in the Navy and both of you moving to his duty station, I was reminded of the time 53 years ago when I (Ray) went through the same experience..
God be with you, Pattye Perez and Ray Gough
Hello Ray! Thank you for stopping by my blog! With Jonathan in Pensacola now, and us being separated for almost 2 1/2 months now, it’s been a rough time.. and a crash course into Navy life… so it’s nice to hear from seasoned military people / families and know that it’s all worth it in the end! Thanks for your kind thoughts!
Hey Ginji, hope all is well with baby 🙂 Thanks for dropping by my blog, it’s always good to make new acquaintances, especially superstar photographers like yourself 🙂
Well done figuring out the trump card for elbow wars, presumably at some stage I will meet the grandmaster at elbow wars and get out trumped, but until then happy flying:)
I’ve added you on my links –> friends, you doing the same helps people find our blogs 🙂

I am going to sound like a horrid newbie, but I am not sure I know how to set up the Friends widget on my sidebar. I know I have a “Blogs I Follow” feature, but as far as I know it is entirely random in who it shows thumbnails of. I just checked out your page to view your setup, and I’ll have to tinker around in my WordPress Dashboard setup to figure out how to make it a bit more customized… anyhoo, thanks for adding me to your friends list! I’ll try to return the favor as soon as I conquer my computer incompetence.. serious. For somehow who is on them all the time, I am woefully negligent in my computer savvy! haha! ^_^
PS I might borrow your idea about the “Hire me” page, hadn’t thought of that…thanks:)
Dooooo it!!! lol
Done !
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated you for the “One Lovely Blog Award”
Awwww, thank you so much!!!! I appreciate it!
My husband also used to be in the Navy. 🙂 It’s quite an interesting life. 🙂 lol Good luck to you! I also commented on your other posting about needing breast milk, but I posted under my actual name which is Jennifer Crowley. 🙂
Thank you so much, and thank you for stopping by my blog!!
thank you for dropping by my blog and the “Like” of my posts.
And thank you for stopping by mine!!
Wow that’s a lot of big changes all at once, but I’m truly happy for you. Thank so much for dropping by wePoets it’s much appreciated. We’d be happy to showcase your work should you want to share. 🙂
I would love to share! Let me know if there’s ever anything I post that you like!!
You are welcome to choose what’s on your heart to share. Our submission and theme pages explain everything. 🙂 Welcome.
Hi! I meant to ask you if you got the email I sent a while back about things to do in Pensacola? No worries about not responding, I know little ones take up a lot of time! Just wanted you to know I did send it in case you didn’t get it and thought I had forgotten.
Ack, yes I did, but I’ve been soooo behind on my e-mails… lemme write back to you soon.. I have a couple free things I’ve discovered in Pensacola that we love to do, that I’d like to share!
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier, glad I found yours! I like what you are doing here, Gingi. Congrats on the new baby, it is so awesome to watch that little life develop. Keep it up and many blessings in your geeky journey! 😀
Thanks for stopping by my blog too! And HEY!!! You are follower 1200 on my blog! YAAAAAYYYY!! I feel so lucky! ^_^
Nice!
P.S. – you wouldn’t happen to be…say…a Whovian, would you? ::fingers crossed:::
Not… yet. *hangs head in shame* My husband is, but I saw one episode with these creepy ass guys that you forget you saw when you look away from them, and it seriously gave me nightmares haha. So I have been shying away from the series, though my husband is determined to fix that, haha.
Hahaha. Ahh…The Silence. You should watch the Episode named “Blink” which introduces the Weeping Angels. Personally recommend starting back at Series 1 to enjoy all the fun, campy and geeky stuff too. That episode is a hard one to be introduced on. Haha. Don’t hang your head in shame, there is still hope. 😉
Lol we are planning a mega marathon from episode one soon! I’ll feel like something is wrong with me if I don’t like it… Haha.
Well, I have a feeling that you’ll enjoy all things Whovian. “Call it..a hunch, barump-chee!”
Young Frankenstein references? You have just leveled up to awesome my new friend. 😉
I knew you’d get that! Haha! I grew up on that movie, probably watching it waaaaay before I should have.
Haha, same!! I look back at some of the movies I watched as a kid and think wow… My parents were nuts. Blazing Saddles for a ten year old?! But I guess I turned out fine… I think? Lol
I know, right? Haha. A couple years ago, my wife and I were watching “Ghostbusters” and when I heard some of the things Signourney Weaver’s character, Dana, was saying to Venkman (bill murrary) when she was possessed… I couldn’t believe it! Haha. Yeah I think you turned out fine, from what I can tell. 😉
What an exciting adventure you are on! Looking forward to keeping up with your journey, and checking out your nifty cosplay attire.
Awwwww, thank you so much!! I am so very grateful for this awesome network of bloggers!!
I just wanted to thank you very much for following my car blog. johnwcurtis.wordpress.com
Despite being a journalist I am new to blogging and am really enjoying it.
I genuinely appreciate your support
Kindest regards
JC
Ditto!! Keep it up, blogging is therapeutic and an amazing way to connect. I got your back, bro. 😉
Love your blog, story, photos. I’m a navy guy myself and I know what the life is like. Me and my Tina will be married 30 years next summer. We have Jesus to thank for carrying us along. It is cool to see you all beginning the journey we’ve been on so long. Blessings to you and yours.
You have no idea how awesome it is to hear from you! Both my parents and my husbands parents just enjoyed their 30th year wedding anniversaries, and we look forward to many years of marriage to come. The divorce rates in the Navy are daunting, but hearing from wonderful couples like yourself gives us strength. Thank you for fighting the good fight and being the kind of couple Titus speaks of in the Bible… encouraging us newlyweds! God bless!
Thanking you with every ounce of kindness I can muster for the like!
LOL, ditto, new friend!
Thank you for stopping by my blog
…..you said that before. 😉
Thank you for stopping by my blog and liking it. Come back soon!
Will do, and don’t be a stranger yourself! ^_^
You and my 22 year old daughter would get along swimmingly! I am the Momma to 10 babies…with many of your same ideas….I can’t wait to read more of you. 🙂
LOL, is she into cosplay?! (Usually thats what moms mean when they say their kids would love me, hehe!) 10 BABIES??!?! How!??!?! lol.. and you go momma! Keep in touch!
I randomly came across your blog and WOW!!! PHENOMENAL cosplay. I love the cowboy bebop. Best of luck and god bless.
Awww, thank you so much for stopping by! I love it when people like our cosplay. It’s so much better than the blank stares and slowly backing away that we usually get. 😉
So totally random but I just saw your hubby’s picture on Sarah Palin’s facebook page!
Oh wow!! Thanks for telling me!!!
I nominated you! http://workinggamingmom.wordpress.com/2013/11/25/the-sunshine-award/
Awwww, thank you!!
